Resident Handbook

The new St. Lawrence Lodge capitalizes on stunning views of the majestic St. Lawrence River.

The new building is constructed according to Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Long-Term Care Facility design standards.  Those standards are based on the understanding that as a person experiences greater health challenges and more limitations in functioning, they become more dependent on the surrounding environment for support.  The design of our new long term care Home is intended to provide a supportive, enabling, and “home-like” environment, which will allow a resident to experience a better quality of life.  This is accomplished by giving residents space that recognizes their individual need for privacy, dignity, and control.

Some key components in the new St. Lawrence Lodge include seven (7) Resident Home Areas (RHAs), consisting of a maximum of 32 beds each, that function as self-contained “neighbourhoods”, along with, larger shared community spaces such as a Town Square, Worship Centre, Lodge Shop, resident library, and beauty shop.

Each RHA features resident rooms with en suite bathrooms to promote self-care and independence, personal care centres with whirlpool tubs, living rooms, dining rooms, activity areas and interior courtyards.  The RHA design also includes features such as noise control, air quality and conditioning, and safety and security systems.  The reduced travel distances on the RHA further promote independence for residents.

Each room comes furnished with an electric adjustable bed, bedside table and chair. Resident's are however encouraged to individualize their room with their own possessions including chair, single chest of drawers, lamps, pictures, quilts or other personal effects that might help to make the room feel like home.

Because of safety considerations and space limitations, restrictions on the size and amount of personal belongings that can be brought in to the Home are necessary and should be discussed prior to admission.

The cost of accommodation is determined by the Ministry of Health; and is consequently, the same as similar accommodations in other facilities. Financial assistance is available to all residents who, based on their net disposable income after taxes, cannot afford to pay the maximum basic accommodation rate.  This is not available to residents in semi-private or private accommodation, however.

The care received is in no way reflective of the accommodation fee paid. The level of resident care is the same whether paying a reduced or standard rate for basic or preferred accommodation
