Services - The Best of Care

Health/Daily Living Services

A Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurses, and nursing attendant staff are on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The nursing department, in conjunction with dietary, activation, social work, and environmental service staff provide for varying levels of personal care and accessibility, including:

  • Assisting with, and completion of activities of daily living including dressing, eating, toileting, and mobilization
  • The administering of medication and treatment application
  • Physical assessment and intervention
  • Activation programs providing physical therapy and occupational therapy
  • Access to community referral agencies according to care needs
  • The use of assistive devices on a short term basis until arrangements can be made for the purchase of the required equipment
  • Access to social work services

Food and Nutritional Services

Meals are prepared on site and in strict accordance with both the Canadian Food Guide Standards and Long Term Care Standards. Food and Nutritional services are under the direction of the Lodge and managed by Aramark Canada’s team of qualified Operations staff, and a Registered Dietitian.

  • Therapeutic diets are also provided for a given resident in compliance with his or her physician’s orders
  • In addition the Resident’s Council and Resident’s Food Committee meet regularly to discuss and participate in the menu planning and to access the quality of service provided by the dietary department
  • Residents can choose from two meal selections at breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Nourishment and snacks are also provided daily

Optional Services

Optional services are available for a fee. Services include:

  • Telephone/long distance charges
  • Transportation and accompaniment to outside appointments
  • Dry cleaning pick-up and delivery
  • Hairdressing and barber services
  • On site chiropody, dental hygiene, and optometry
  • Repair of personal wheelchair and other equipment

Services available through local vendors include:

  • Cable television
  • Personal magazines or newspapers
  • The repair of eyeglasses, dentures, and prosthesis
  • Repairs, mending and alteration of clothing
  • Repairs to hearing aids
  • Personal Support Providers for private duty care, sitters, companions

Nursing and Medical Care

The Lodge provides for 24 hour access to medical care. Our Medical Director is currently available on site 3 mornings per week. Medical coverage can be by a resident’s own family physician if 24 hour coverage is provided. If not, the Lodge’s Medical Director will provide this service. A resident’s plan of care is developed with input from the resident’s physician; our nursing, pastoral, activation, and dietary staff to meet each resident’s physical, social, spiritual, and emotional needs.

  • The Lodge’s Nursing Department provides nursing and personal care
  • Registered staff consists of RNs and RPNs
  • The RN staff, in conjunction with all members of the interdisciplinary team is responsible for comprehensive assessments of all residents and developing plans of care to meet individual needs
  • The RPN staff administers medications and treatments
  • The Nursing Attendant staff assists with, or provides the support needed for the completion of all activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and visitation) for all residents
  • A Special Care Unit provides a secure environment for residents considered to be at risk to wander

Pastoral Care

The pastoral care team is coordinated by the Activation Department and consists of members of the Brockville Ministerial Association and volunteers trained in the provision of pastoral care. The pastoral care coordinator attends all care conferences, and is available to meet with residents and their family.

  • Spiritual and religious services and programs are delivered throughout the week
  • Catholic services and non-denominational services are held regularly through collaboration and coordination with the Brockville and Area Ministerial Association
  • Residents are visited by a member of the pastoral care team upon admission and referral
  • Residents are encouraged to continue attending service and maintaining ties with their local church.


A recreation and leisure program of organized activities is available to each resident. Held on each unit, the programs offered have been designed to stimulate sensory, physical, intellectual, and social abilities.

Special Events

A variety of special events is held throughout the year to provide entertainment and socialization. Each month a daily calendar of program activities is created and mapped out providing our residents with a broad selection of activities from which to choose.

Physical Therapy

A Physical Therapy Service Program, contracted by the Lodge to a qualified vendor, is also available on site for our residents who require rehabilitation and mobility. The Activation Therapy staff work closely with the onsite Physiotherapist to help residents regain or maintain functional abilities.


Administration services includes senior administration, resident care administration, business office, staff development, occupational health and safety, and continuous quality improvement management.

Administration encompasses day-to-day management of the Lodge. The staff are responsible for the overall organization, direction and supervision of the Home’s operation, including ensuring quality of care, fiscal management, and human resource management.

Support Services

Support Services includes maintenance, environmental services, laundry, and supplies distribution.

The primary function of maintenance and environmental services is to provide a safe, comfortable, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, their families, visitors, and staff.
