Service Overview
A Registered Nurse is on site at all times. Nursing, attendant
staff provide twenty four-hour personal care.
The nursing department in conjunction with dietary, activation and
environmental service staff provide for varying levels of personal care
including:
- assisting with/completing activities of daily living including dressing,
eating, toileting & mobilization
- medication administration and treatment application
- physical assessment and intervention
- 24 hour access to medical care
- activation programs providing physical therapy and occupational therapy
- meals prepared on site
- on site access to community referral agencies, as required by care
needs
- short term use of assistive devices
(until arrangements can be made for the purchase of required items)
Food & Nutritional Services
Food & Nutritional Services are under the direction of the Lodge
and managed by Aramark Canada, and their team of qualified Food Services
Operation Managers and a Registered Dietician.
Meals are prepared on the premises and include therapeutic diets, as
ordered by the resident’s Physician.
The menu is prepared based on the Canadian Food Guide Standards and
Long Term Care Program Standards.
The menu provides two choices from which residents can select at meal
time.
Nourishment and snacks are provided daily a day.
Residents Dining Committee meets regularly to discuss and participate
in the menu planning and quality of service of the dietary department.
Optional Services
Services supplied on a fee for service basis include
- telephone/long distance charges
- transportation and accompaniment to outside appointments
- dry cleaning pick up and delivery
- hairdressing/barber
- on site chiropody
- repair of personal wheelchair or other equipment
Services available through local vendors***
- cable television
- personal magazine or newspapers
- repair of eye glasses, dentures and prosthesis
- repairs, mending or alteration to clothing
- repairs to hearing aids
- private duty care providers/sitters/companions
Nursing and Medical Care
The Medical Director is currently on-site 3 mornings a week and 24
hour access to medical care is provided.
The Nursing Department provides nursing and personal care. The Registered
Staff consists of RNs and RPNs. The RN Staff in conjunction with all
members in the interdisciplinary team is responsible for comprehensive
assessments of all residents and developing plans of care to meet individual
needs. The RPN Staff administers medications and treatments. The Nursing
Attendant Staff assist with or provide the supports needed for the completion
of all the activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting,
and visitation) for the residents.
Medical coverage can be by a Resident’s own family physician
provided 24 hour coverage is available. If not, then the Medical Director
will provide this service.
A Special Care Unit provides a secure environment for residents with
Alzheimer’s - type dementias.
A resident plan of care is developed with input from the physician,
Nursing Staff, Pastoral Care, Activation Department Staff, and Dietary
Staff to meet each resident’s physical, social, spiritual and emotional
needs.
Pastoral Care
The Pastoral Care Team is co-coordinated out of the Activation Department
and consists of volunteers trained in the provision of pastoral care.
The Pastoral Care Co-coordinator attends all care conferences and is
available to meet with family and residents.
There are spiritual and religious services and programs delivered throughout
the week.
Catholic services and non-denominational services are held regularly
through collaboration and co-ordination with the Brockville and Area
Ministerial Association.
Residents are visited by a member of the pastoral care team upon admission
and referral. Residents are encouraged to continue attending service
and maintaining ties with their local church.
Activation and Recreation
A recreation and leisure program of organized activities is available
to each resident. The programs and activities offered are held on each
unit to stimulate sensory, physical, intellectual and social abilities.
A variety of special events is held throughout the year to provide
entertainment and socialization. Each month a calendar of program activities
offers a wide variety for residents to choose from, according to their
own preference.
A Physical Therapy Service Program is available on-site to residents
who require rehabilitation, and mobility. The current provider
is Seaway Physiotherapy Center from Prescott, Ontario.
The Activation Therapy Staff guided under the direction of a Physiotherapist,
assists with follow up and therapy application to regain or maintain
functional abilities.
Administrative Support
Administrative Services include on-site administration; and business
office – including reception, resident account services, and payroll.
Support Services are responsible for providing the following functions:
- Receiving/stores
- Building maintenance
- Housekeeping, including cleaning, waste collection and disposal
- Laundry/linen
- Food services
- Staff facilities.
The primary function of support services is to provide a safe, comfortable,
clean, well-maintained environment for residents, their families, staff
and visitors. |
